For the City of Fort Lauderdale, Duncan Associates prepared a study that established impact fees that will assist the City in assuring that adequate park and recreational resources are available to meet the needs of future growth. Few American cities have a more diverse or eclectic collection of park and recreational resources than does Fort Lauderdale. Over the years, the city has become an international showcase when it comes to affording opportunities for outdoor recreation, relaxation, entertainment and exercise. The City possesses a portfolio of parks that includes much more than its famous seven |

miles of beaches. It also is home to an international aquatic complex, a world-class tennis center, and a downtown Riverwalk linear park. Since the mid-1980s, Fort Lauderdale has invested more than $26 million to improve its beach access. Route A1A along the beach has been completely redesigned with a sleek promenade. Another ongoing City priority is in expanding facilities in its neighborhood parks and playgrounds to better serve local residents of all ages. As Fort Lauderdale continues to grow, it is critical that new park and recreational facilities keep up with new urban development. As the City moves more towards urban build-out, desirable parcels will become less and less available and the opportunity to maintain quality services for both current residents and newcomers will become more and more difficult. |
