Savannah Thomas Square Streetcar Historic District | ||||||
![]() |
As part of their work on a countywide zoning ordinance for the Chatham County-Savannah Metropolitan Planning Commission, Duncan Associates prepared new form-based zoning districts for one of the City’s currently unprotected National Register Historic Districts – the Thomas Square Streetcar Historic District. Four new design-based districts replace approximately 19 existing districts in the area, bringing back corner stores, and employing performance standards for fine-grained mixing of uses. Using Thomas Square as a model for a countywide code, the firm is currently preparing an initial draft that will allow a healthier mix of uses throughout the entire County. |

The new form-based districts are currently under review by the Savannah City Council and are due for adoption in early 2005.In 2006, the firm will continue working with the City and County on a common draft ordinance to replace the separate city and county zoning and subdivision ordinances. |
