Amber Medel joined Duncan Associates in 2001 and is based out of the firm’s Chicago office. She provides technical expertise in drafting and illustrating land development regulations. Recent experience includes assisting in the drafting of the Chicago Zoning Ordinance and producing more than 50 illustrations for that document; as well as assisting with land development code revisions for Wake County, North Carolina; Sumter County, Florida; Bossier City, Louisiana; Covington, Kentucky; Riviera Beach, Florida; Lawrence/Douglas County, Kansas; Kansas City, Missouri; and Toledo, Ohio. Amber also managed the day-to-day operations of the Princeton, Illinois Land Development Code, which was adopted in August 2006, and has contributed her research and design expertise to the multi-jurisdictional Land Development Plan for LaPorte County, Indiana. Amber has produced illustrations for numerous development codes and other documents. She has also created much of the firm’s other graphic content, including maps, websites, and informational material for a variety of projects. Amber previously worked for Ball State University’s Community Based Projects Program, where she drafted comprehensive plans for a number of Indiana communities; assisted with neighborhood design workshops; produced illustrations for design guidelines documents; and translated documents into Spanish for local residents. She also worked on a collaborative neighborhood revitalization project in Muncie, Indiana which received a HUD Best Practices Award. While working for the city of Ann Arbor, Michigan Planning Department, Amber assisted with the city’s Northeast Area master plan revision process, including writing and designing a newsletter for local residents, conducting research, and facilitating public workshops.
